Flood death toll rises to 14: official


20 September 2008. After we come back from the field, Poom cooks pumpkin steamed custard for me and his mother. Last Thursday Mr.Nipon who is Apinnya’s husband takes the big pumpkin for us. Poom cooks with a delicious pumpkin steamed custard. He can eat half of all a pumpkin steamed custard.

          Last week he cooks the sugar palm jelly for us. Poom said “ The sugar palm jelly is more delicious than the pumpkin steamed custard, but the pumpkin steamed custard more advantage than sugar palm jelly. I agree with him too.

          There have no a heavy rain this year. There is no water in the rice field. Currently there is only 10% of pond capacity. Poom advise his mum to make her stretch straight hair at the beauty shop. “ I think you have stretch straight hair more beauty than you have the curly hair.” Poom said to his mum.

        …. Coup leader General Sonthi Boonyaratklin said he had no comment on the power seizure and its outcome.   Sonthi refused to answer any questions relating to the political situation and the Somchai Wongsawat government. He said he was enjoying his retirement and going to make the Hajj to Mecca….

Fourteen people have been killed so far in floods which have hit 36 provinces during the past nine days, the permanent secretary for Public Health said Saturday.

Prat Boonyawongwiroj, permanent secretary for Public Health, said most of the victims were swept away by flash floods.

He said 53,946 people fell sick because of the flooding during September 11 to 19. He said 35 per cent of them suffered from athlete's foot, 27 per cent from cold, and 15 per cent from diarrhoea.
